FILING A CRIME VICTIM APPEAL
Introduction
A claim for crime victim compensation starts with an application for benefits filed with the Department of Labor and Industries. (Department of Labor & Industries - Crime Victims)
If you disagree with a decision made by the Department, you should do one of the following:
- File a protest (request for reconsideration) with the Department, OR
- File an appeal with the BIIA.
Do not file a protest with the Department if you are filing an appeal with the BIIA.
You must file an appeal within 90 days of the date you receive the Department's decision.
Your appeal should include:
- The name and address of the claimant.
- The Department's claim number.
- The date of the decision being appealed.
- The reason you disagree with the decision.
- What you are asking for.
